Monday's #Music Moves Me...Freebie Week

Since it is Labor Day here in the states, I thought I would start with an oldie from Loretta Lynn who sang about being a "Coal Miner's Daughter".

Next up: This next one could almost be dedicated to the workers who lost their jobs this year since the pandemic started. It was no different back when Bing sang about being in the food lines or begging for a dime.

Finally: Dolly Parton sang it well in the movie and boy does it hold up.

Labor Day Weekend Telethon Memories

When I think of Labor Day, my mind will always go the Jerry Lewis Muscular Dystrophy Telethon. It was a staple of the weekend and yes, I donated for years. I watched Ed McMahon announce the newest total and it was always a rush.

I marveled at the many stars that passed through but the most memorable for me is when Dean Martin showed up with Frank Sinatra. It had been years since Jerry Lewis and Dean Martin had been on the same stage. It was not only a surprise for Jerry Lewis but a truly magical moment that would go down in history.

I think when Jerry Lewis was asked to leave it put a hole in me and others that could not ever be filled again. It was just one of those things where life moved on and only left the memory. It is missed and I truly think those of his "kids" and us miss him.  Thanks for the memories.

Addendum: Tonight I ran across the telethon still being held in St. Louis. I was surprised as I did not know it was still going. This leg of the telethon was always broadcast in sync with the major overall telethon and outlets around the country. It too had stories to tell and memories I will not forget. eg. When the original host, Bob the weather guy, died previous months before in a helicopter crash, people flooded the telethon with notes and donations in his name.  Mike Bush, his friend, had co-hosted with him and since then has been the host to this day.

Nothing Like Being Late To the Party-Wordless(ish) Wed. #WordlessWednesday

Well, I am really late for my blog post so, I am improvising. Today I am simply following along with Wordless Wednesday. It has been a long time since I did this ongoing meme. Hope you like my choosing.

I am a fan of genealogy and was doing some research lately on one side of my family tree. As I was musing around, I found this photo that a non-family member had taken. It is of my Great-grandmother's grave. She was an amazing and strong woman who went through the Great Depression and fed people outside her back kitchen door.

 She was also a suffragist and worked hard to get the right to vote. She did so for the rest of her life. She was funny and faithful. I was fortunate to know her up until I was 12. I miss her to this day.

Thirty days hath September,

February has twenty-eight alone,

Hello, my friends. Once again another September is upon us and I have once again returned to the 30 Days Hath September idea. (I have not done it since 2018-what the heck?)

What is that you might ask? Well, it is the idea to take every day in September and improve yourself in some way. For me, one way was to blog for 30 days straight. I did not always get it right but I attempted.

I have spent so much of my life with this blog sharing with you things that matter, letting my thoughts flow free. I have shared music, pain, laughter, family, products, and holidays I so love. It has dwindled over the years and I truly think that is sad.

But it doesn't have to be so,here I am.

My one-word goal this year was "FORWARD". In all of the chaos this year, I have really managed to do that. I suppose writing for 30 days straight is part of that plan and word. My question to myself is how can I move forward today.

This month you will see me back with music as I love to share with the 4M gals. You might see photos and preparations for the upcoming Halloween month that I share followed by Thankful November and of course my favorite holiday, Christmas. Who knows what else will be on my mind?!
