Conversations

"You like me, you really like me!" ~Sally Fields
 ---------------------------------------
Quite a while back I was having a conversation with someone I used to work with. We were having a discussion about what people really mean when they say things or better yet how we interpret the things people say.

I have to admit, I do not always interpret things the way people mean them or even saying them. After all being 95% deaf, that will happen. Sometimes this can cause serious laughter or much frustration!

Anyway, I wondered at the time, as I do now, is this what happens when we talk to one another? How many times have we said something or wrote something and it was taken out of context?

It is not so unusual for the things people say or write to also be quoted over and over that the original meaning has been lost or distorted.

Have you ever had that happen to you? You know what I mean?

Peace...Naila Moon

I ca relate to this so much, sometimes you think you are so clear in what you are saying, whether it be a complemet or a piece of writing; only to find that you have been taken completey out of context.

It makes communications more challenging.

Naila Moon,

I think every one of us brings there own unique experiences to every conversation. A conversation is much like an iceberg; each participant holding history others may not be aware of that will play a large part in how something is "heard" not necessarily said.
When you are reading you lack the ability to see expressions, hear the tone, know what's going on in the background.
People need to consider all of these things before jumping to the worst possible conclusion.
Thank you for this thought provoking post.

It happens to me constantly! So often in fact that I agonize forever over everything I write - thinking of how it could be taken. Talking to folks is no better - sometimes I think I speak a foreign language. Glad to know it's not just me.....
