Day 6...BBQ, Babies and BS

BBQ
Yesterday the family, friends and I had a wonderful time over at my Mom's house for a Labor Day bbq. 

My son...aka The Great BBQ Chef...cooks meat like there is nothing to it. Oh my gosh was it good. There was seriously something for everyone:chicken, beef burgers, turkey burgers, brats, hot dogs...all yummy!


My Mom also had all the usual bbq fixin's. She also had mashed potatoes which was a request from my son who does not like potato salad.  Everyone at those!  

The rest of my family filled in with seven layer salad and there was even a 3-layer sugar free pudding dessert. It sounds gross but was really good!

My daughter-in-law,son, and a friend all had their babies there with them. Two little girls that did not play together at all. They were leery of each other which was kinda funny and weird all rolled in to one.


My grand-daughter at one point decided to play with a ball I had brought over for her.  It was truly funny because she would throw it up in the air and let it drop. The first time she did this we clapped for her. Well, I really should say the first three times. Of course she clapped too. Then she kept doing the same thing over and over , look around to make sure some one had seen her and would clap. It was really funny for a bit.

So after everyone ate their fill, the BS began. As my children had a bunch of their high school friends over, they were laughing and telling stories like there was no tomorrow.  They had not all been together in one place in a long time, so, it was good to see them. They all call me mom and to a few, I have truly been just that.


I decided to teach them all how to play bocce ball. Right off the bat they would not let me explain. I had first tried to tell them it was basically Italian bowling. So of course, they asked, "Where are the pins?"


After explaining that you hit a little ball, my daughter and I got in to this small conversation.


Her: " Oh, so it is like Quidditch?"
Me: "Um, no."
Her: "It's like marbles!"
Me: (rolling my eyes) "Yeah, just like that."


I finally got two words in, gave them some trumped up directions, and told them all just to roll the damn balls so we could play.  The game lasted less time than it was for me to explain it.

Later on, as I had also brought board games, Tamirisc and I played a couple of rounds of the game 'Trouble'. We each won a game. I have to tell you though, we are both competitive but no one got hurt.


All, in all, a very fun evening.

Day 5...Music Moves Me... All the Way Back to the 70's

If you have been reading my blog for awhile, you will know that Monday is one of my favorite blogging days. I get to move and groove with Xmas Dolly at her fun meme Monday's Music Moves Me.

This week I picked the theme which is "Back to the 70's". 

I told Dolly that I remember being a kid and roller skating to the tunes of the day.  As I could walk to the roller rink, as it was literally down the street, and it was cheap, I went a lot!

So getting on to my picks this week I am going to start with this one from 1975:  (I remember every version of this one and it was one that my Mom used in her high school dance shows)

Day 4...Please, I beg of you!

Since I dropped Tamirisc off at work this morning I have been at my Mom's house. She has not been here all morning, which is good because I get things done! hee hee 


You see, I am her personal assistant for the church she is pastor of. I use her computer to do her church stuff. When she is home, I inevitably get in to debate with her about using it. It is amazing to me that she always seems to "need" to be on it right when I am getting ready to do something for her.

Anyway, it has been so unbelievably hot this week. We have had 100+ temps in my fair city of Po Dunk.  The grass is now a lovely shade of brownish-green.  The trees are totally confused because they are beginning to turn for Autumn.

I am truly begging, pleading, whining, to Mother Nature to throw us a bone and let it rain. Seriously! I could even care less if that means our planned BBQ tomorrow gets wet. We need rain!------------------------------------

Obviously, I am taking a break from the church stuff and blogging away. I have also been listening to the hits of the 70's on YouTube in preparation for tomorrow's post.  Oh, you have got to come check that one out!

Day 3...this post brought to you by...

All day today I have been taking care of my grand-daughter while my son and daughter-in-law are off on an adventure.

This morning we hung out with my Mother and drove up to St. Louis.  They were having some veteran's thing in conjunction with Labor Day events and we wanted to check it out. 

This was part of a bigger display but I love the shot I took.

The only problem for us was three-fold: we forgot Izabella's stroller, it was hot (again for the 3rd day in a row), and we got there way too early.


At least we got to see this fun hot air balloon and a police horse.  Izabella was not too sure about that but she petted the horse anyway.

The officer told us he rides and trains everyday with his horse.

We also saw the beginnings of the National Wheel Chair Tennis Tournament.  I was so amazed at watching this one guy practice.  I'm telling you, I would not play well standing up more less this guy who was in his chair. All I can say is wow!

Mom then took us over to the Boat House for lunch. As many times that I have been in Forest Park, I had never been there. It was so lovely and right next to the lake...such the name because they have paddle boats to rent.

Finally, as it was unbelievably hot, we got in the car and toured around a little bit of the park. This park has been in existence since the 1904 World's Fair that took place there. Many of the buildings and features from then still exist.  It is an exquisite park, well taken care of and well used.


After that most exciting morning and early afternoon, we came home and watched Sesame Street, sang, danced and read books. Finally, Izabella has laid back down for a nap and her grandma gets to blog about the day. :)

Day 2...I got an itch

Do you ever have the problem where your skin is so dry that you think you are going to itch yourself to death? That is certainly my problem today. I need lotion and I do not mean just a small bottle. I need the mega gallon variety! Gah!
 The funny thing... if itching can be funny...is that you start itching say on your leg....then you shoulder...then your face...then your... The next thing you know you are itching all over.  It drives you ABSOLUTELY UP THE WALL.
As soon as I finish this blog, I swear to you, I am going to go dip my self in a pool of Lubriderm lotion! Ahhhhhhhhh

Top 10...Labor Day

As unbelievable as it may sound, this is post #2 for me tonight. I simply could not let Thursday go by and not join Beth in her Top 10 of the week. So, without further adu...this week is: The Top 10 Things You Would Like to Do On Labor Day (drum roll please)

1. BBQ! Who doesn't want to heat up the grill on Labor Day Weekend.  Actually, my family is getting together on Monday for that. 

2. Relax! Honestly, if I had a hammock, I would be in it all weekend.

3. Plant flowers. This is really something my Mom wants me to do for her but I love planting flowers.

4. Homework.  I am in a mythology class this semester and if I want to keep up with it and pass well, I have to read the pages.
5. Read. I have four or five books that I am currently reading. I would like to at least finish one of them.
6. Watch the MDA telethon.  I used to watch this EVERY year. This is Jerry Lewis' last year so, I really do want to watch it this year.

7. Blogging. 30 days baby!
8. Babysitting.  I am hanging out with my grand-daughter on Saturday while her parents take off for the day.

9. Hubby time. Spend some time with Tamirisc, maybe play Scrabble or something.
10. Prayer time. Got to always have time with the Creator!

30 days of September

Thirty days hath September,

April, June, and November;

February has twenty-eight alone,

All the rest have thirty-one,

Excepting leap year, that's the time

When February's days are twenty-nine.

Does anyone remember having to say this little poem when you were a child? I do and I still remember it to this day. Well, sort of. I did not remember the last part until I looked it up.

Anyway, I have a friend by the name of Stephanie that wrote about this poem and about a guy by the name of Morgan Spurlock. He is best known for his movie Super Size Me which takes on the fast food chains. He is also known for his show 30 Days in which he spends 30 days doing or living a lifestyle unfamiliar to himself.

So getting back to Stephanie. She took a cue from Morgan S. and decided to improve her life or do something for 30 days in September. (aka thirty days hath September)

Being inspired I thought I might as well give it a go too. So, I have decided two things.

The first thing is I am going to get up every morning at 6AM and have breakfast with my hubby. Now, this may sound easy but for me, it really isn't. Trust me when I say I have a hate relationship for getting up any time before...oh...10ish. When we were still in Colorado I would get up at 8:30 and have breakfast with him but believe me, that was pushing it. OK, so 6 AM it is...groan. For the record, I did get up that early this morning. It helps my hubby has to be at work at 7AM and I am the only one that drives.

The second thing I am going to do is blog everyday. I generally used to blog about 2-3 days a week and have been way out of the habit. So, why not. I warn you, it may or may not be dribble but I am going to do it! So, for obvious reasons, this is day one. :)
