Hey, ya all! Let's start the celebrations right now because we are not only at the end of April, but we are done today with A-Z. It has been one tough month for me, but I am so glad to have shared great music with you all month long.
Since it is Z today, I thought what better song to share than "Zoot Suit Riot!" I got to see the Cherry Poppin' Daddies in Denver a few years ago. It was during the July 4th weekend and was a free concert. They were a total blast and everyone loved them. Let's celebrate...whoo hoo!

Wow, it is almost to the end. However, before I get there, I want to share one of my more favorite musical artist. Even with total blindness from birth, Stevie Wonder shined at light on all of those who have met him or heard him play.
He was known as a child prodigy beginning to perform at the age of 11 with a Motown label, (source Wikipedia) he has wowed audiences ever since. The song, "You Are the Sunshine of My Life" is one of many that I love.

I have heard a couple of songs from this artist, Chris Brown that are ok. Looking for an "X" song, I came across his song appropriately called, "X" that speaks about a man who is in pain. **Warning: I do caution the listener that their are a couple of curse words in this song. So, if you have young ones, you might want to put on earphones or shoo them out of the room.

Admittedly, I am not a big groupie or fan of the artist I am about to share with you today. I suppose it is because I simply have not taken the time to know his music. So, this piece is just as new to me as anyone. I found this particular video which I just had to share. Elvis Costello was sitting in for then, David Letterman's, show. The first minute or so is sort of funny. Have a good time with this one!
I am moving on into the final stretch of the A-Z Challenge. This time, I am once again switching gears and going country. Sugarland is a group that I heard a couple of years ago and just loved their sound. I hope you love them as much as I do. Welcome back to the final week of April! I have been cruising along amongst a crazy whirlwind of stuff to bring you some fantastic music every day. If you are just coming by from the A-Z challenge, I welcome you. I am here every Monday spinning some tunes with my musical pals!

This week, we have a theme which is 80's/90's music favorite artist but not necessarily their hits. Whoa...a challenge upon a challenge, as this is also the letter "U" for me. ( I may have to not do the "hit" part, we shall see.)
First:
I want to pay homage (like a ton of people already have) to "The Purple One" that passed away this past week. Prince could have been classified as his own genre of music. He was among the few truly talented musical superstars that left us way too soon. I am sharing a song with you that he sang with Sheena Easton. It is no doubt provocative. It was also not easy to find as Prince had most all of his music removed from YouTube. In truth, I am not sure even this will come across well enough to produce the genius he was. I still wish I had his album. Here is..."U Got the Look"
Next:
This next artist's song falls to the category of "hit" music. MC Hammer performed for the first time what many consider his signature song in the year 1990. (reference wikipedia) The song has been used for numerous promotions and shows. It has also won a myriad of awards. I caution you, once you play the song, it becomes an earworm for awhile. Presenting..."U Can't Touch This"
Finally:
I had many favorites in the 1980's, one band was Foreigner. Like other bands and singers, I had their album and played it often. They just had that sound that resonated with me, not quite hard rock but just enough. The particular album I am going to share with you had half of their original band gone. Still, their sound was awesome! I am leaving you today with their song, "Urgent"
As a kid of the "80's, one of the bands my brothers and I used to listen to was REO Speedwagon. I swear to you that one of my brothers wore out needles from listening to his record. One of the songs we loved to hear most was this one..."Take It On the Run"
Unfortunately, all the older, original videos of the group have been blocked. However, I did find covers and also the group (much older) singing in 2011. This is the one I was able to share.
A few years back, the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade featured the Broadway group from "Rent." They sang the song, "Seasons of Love" for the parade. From then on, I was hooked on the music.
The next year, I was gifted with tickets to see the play and a CD. Several years later, I got to see a college version of the play. I also purchased the DVD.

Moving on to Q. Another group I love is the Moody Blues, They are as iconic as other groups. In this song, they have only one thing and that is a "Question."

First up: This first group, I have enjoyed for quite a long time in the spiritual development of my life. I give you the group, Jars of Clay with the song, "O, My God."
Next: This song is from one of my favorite movies, "Sister Act 2". In this particular movie, the good Sister teaches a bunch of misfit kids to be a great choir. One of the first songs they sing is, "Oh, Happy Day!"
Finally:This last one is by a group called, Dream Theater. I have never heard of them before today. This song, called, "On the Back of Angels" really has no comparison to the first two I have posted. Yet, I am drawn to it.
Late musical posting today because I have felt awful. This is a short post because of it. Here are several different singers singing the same song, "Mack the Knife." Which do you like best? Tell me in comments. Enjoy the music and see you tomorrow!
Hello everyone...welcome back to my blog and more music. As you know by now, I am blogging it A-Z for the April A-Z challenge. Today we are on the letter "L".
The singer I am going to share with you was up and coming in the late 1950's. He brought to the music world what was then called, Chicano Rock. Unfortunately, his voice was squelched in the plane crash that also killed, The Big Bopper, Billy Holliday, and Buddy Peterson, which is now known as, "The Day the Music Died".
Ritchie Valens was and is still known for the song, LaBamba, a song he adapted from a Mexican folk song.

Growing up I had loads of music pouring out through my houses. This particular tune I loved to play over and over. I guess because the tune was catchy and I could, at least, remember the refrain. So, I hope you enjoy the song, "Horse With No Name" from the band America as much as I do.
Today I am going to the opposit extreme and going country music. Now, this is a singer I have not really heard before but he was a part of the Nitty Gritty Band at some point. Here is John Prine singing, "Grandpa Was A Carpenter."
One of the things I do love about old style country music is it always had a story to tell as this one does too. I also enjoyed when several artist would get together and just sing tunes together.
This song, "Faith" by Jordin Sparks, I heard just for the first time the other day. Although I followed her when she was on American Idol, I have not much since then. I think I may have to start listening to more from her again.
This was a beautiful song she sang for the Inaugural ball of President Obama for the troops.
Today's song. "Earth Angel" is one that I have heard many times but probably heard the version from the Temptations. I never knew the group, The Penguins.
Now, this is only an inside joke for me; my husband is convinced that penguins are taking over the world, lead by none other than my Mother. She collects them and has had anywhere between 400-700 at any given time. ~Naila Moon
