Wordless (ish) Wednesday and a song...12/5/2012

Is it him?

Winter/Snow...

Forgot source-let me know if it is you!

Hello everybody. I am getting here a little late in the evening for my daily post but you will forgive me...right?

Anyway, there are 21 days left until Christmas and loads of blogging to do.  Today's theme is about winter/snow.

Trivia
1. The largest recorded snowflake is 15 inches wide.
2. It is a misnomer that it has to be 32 degrees for it to snow. It has been know to snow in the mid-40's.
3. In the Winter of 1779-1780, it was so cold that ice was piled 20 ft. high and did not melt until Spring. The Chesapeake Bay and Potomac Rivers were frozen solid. People could walk on them without falling through.
4. Snow is seen as white because its shape does not allow the absorption of light and beams white.
5. No two snowflakes are shaped the same way.

I have two videos to share with you today.

The first video is related to the Winter Solstice and is by the beautiful Enya.  I will let it speak for itself.

The second video I am sharing with you today is one I did back a couple of years ago. It is on how to make paper snowflakes. It was pretty fun to do and I think you might enjoy as well. If you do make some, take a photo and let me see!

I hope you enjoyed my homage to Winter Solstice today.

*W

*Weather Watchers

Recently I  mentioned about my friend, Stephen who is a massive Star Trek Fan (go here). He also just happens to be a severe weather watcher and storm chaser.

A few months ago he took classes so he could have a ham operators license. He informed me in case of severe emergencies ham operators are often called upon to get information out or to assist in the emergency if needed. He has also a good car for storm chasing.

Whenever severe weather is in our area, he is out watching and reporting to networks of other people who report to the weather stations.  Living in the Midwest it is a comfort to know there are people out there, like him, that do this. He has even called my hubby and I on occassion to make sure we are ok or that we have taken shelter. Again, a comfort.

A year ago, around this time, Stephen found his home town to be in the wake of a severe tornado. Many things he remember as a kid in to his adulthood were wiped away in an instance including his brother's home.It was tough for him as a weather watcher because he felt helpless in this case. Here is why:

A month or so ago, he was able to go down to Joplin and help with the clean up. I suppose that is why Stephen and others like him continue to do what they do. I think at times these people are half nuts but the truth is, our weather watchers help to keep us safe, warn us of severe impending weather and help us clean up. For that, I am grateful.

Mondays Music...April 2, 2012

Photobucket

Hello everyone. Even though I am immersed in the April A-Z blog challenge, I would be totally amiss if I did not enjoy my Mondays Music. As always, this meme is hosted by the lovely, Xmas Dolly and led by the Spotlight Dancers.

This week is freebie week. That means I spin out and boogie on down my own selected tunes just for you.

Let me do something a little different with you this week.  I am going to follow a "letter" theme. See if you can figure out the word I used and let me know what you think in comments. Just for fun. Shall we?

Mondays Music...Favorite Male Artist

Photobucket

Oh, it  is unbelievable that it is already Monday again. Most people cannot stand today but I find it not to be too bad. I mean after all, I get to post the tunes and boogie on down with Xmas Dolly for Mondays Music Moves Me.

This week is the theme Favorite Male Artist.

If you have followed me before or should I say danced with me before, then you know I have no real favorites when it comes to music. However, I am quite sure I can come up with a few that I truly like in this category.

Hmmm...let's start out with this guy. He will always melt me heart strings.

Up next let's go with this guy: (Note: this one starts 2.25 minutes in to the video but well worth it. Do you get the joke and see other greats?)

Oh my gosh...I am realizing there are so many. Ok, well, let me go next with this guy. He made me swoon, like many other ladies back in the day.

I am just going to end with this guy because...well, just because, why not?!

Peace...Naila Moon

PS>Ok, so I have one more!

Mondays Music Moves Me...March 5, 2012...plane, trains and automobiles

Spotlight Dancers

It seems like Monday comes around faster and faster these days. Maybe it is my age or maybe my life is so full (believe me that isn't it) or maybe...

Anyway, Monday is here and that can only mean it is time to boogie on down with Xmas Dolly's Mondays Music. I found out that I am in the Spotlight this week again. Wow, I am humbled. Thank you!

This week is a freebie week, which means I choose the tunes. However, even though it is san theme, it seems I chose "planes, trains and automobiles".  Enjoy!

This week the music world lost yet another music icon. (It seems like that are dropping off in the droves lately. Weird!)
This guy I actually saw live with his group. I was am a huge fan of them. I loved their musical TV show as well.

The next video/song is by two artist that are also no longer with us. Their voices together were simply beautiful. (Note: wait a minute or two as they talk together at the beginning.) My first album that I had in my music collection by this artist actually belonged to my parents. I simply removed it from their collection to my own. lol

This next video you have to listen very carefully to his words. No one could sing folk music like this guy.  I remember first hearing his music when I took a trip to Washington, DC in 1986.  I then sang his music all over Washington. ha! Even then he was against the establishment.

Have a great week.

Pinning weekend...March 3, 2012

Hello everyone. Welcome back to another addition of pinning on the weekend hosted by the lovely Natasha from Oz. (I still love that she is from Oz...hee hee) I have not been on Pinterest much this week (gasp!) because it has been kind of busy. However,  I do have some special things to share with you. I hope you enjoy them.

1. I was just over on the site a moment ago and found this cute gadget. It actually tickles my funny bone.

2. I don't know about you but I love the Muppets.  I found this guy when I was searching for them.

Source: google.ca via Naila on Pinterest

3. Since Kermit always sang the Rainbow Connection I thought I would share something along that category. Unbelievable!

4. As this week was Dr. Suess' birthday, I can't pass up this pin. All I have to say is that was a ton of work!

5. Song for the week...since I am thinking Kermit:

Have a good rest of the weekend and Happy Pinning.

Patiently awaiting...

I am patiently awaiting for April to arrive. I want it to get here soon. No, I don't want to rush the months as they already go by too quickly. What I am waiting for is the beginning of the A-Z blogging challenge.

Have you heard about this world famous challenge? Ok, maybe not world famous but a cool one at that. The challenge is to blog 26 days in April from A-Z. You do get to have the day off on Sundays with the exception of the 1st. It makes sense that the challenge would be in April too...you know, A for April!

As I said, I am waiting patiently. I have plenty of ideas for the mass gathering that is already well...amassing. Seriously! The last time I checked  732 bloggers had already signed up for the challenge.  I am lucky number 512. hee hee

Anyway, if you would like to sign up and put your mind to the alphabet, then head on over there and do so. It will be fun. I know it!

Mondays Music...'Amore'

It is a VERY early Monday here (and I am sitting in a hospital with my daughter-long story for later)and what better thing to do when I cannot sleep than to introduce my Mondays Music Moves Me.

This week is the theme of Amore. Of course that is quite appropriate since Valentine's Day is this week! ;-)  What better way to start out than with this song:

Next up ( a tribute to Whitney):

Finally a nod to the love of my life:

Another Monday!...4M's

Here we are at another Monday. Whew, time has flown as it is the end of January already!  Well, as it is Monday, that means it is also Monday's Music Moves Me.  This week we have the theme of Broadway Musicals.

I thought I would give you a little tid bit about Broadway Musicals before I pile in with my selections for this week.

Broadway Musical Facts
1. The musicals started Sept. 12, 1866
2. The first musical in New York was The Black Crook
3. Vaudeville was the first of the musicals
source
4. Contrary to first thought, of A Chorus Line, the longest running musical is Phantom of the Opera. It has been running since 1988 without closing.

My picks
I have been privledged to see a couple of Broadway Musicals...just not on Broadway.  So, I do have a couple of favorites.

I really enjoy this one. I saw it in Colorado:

I saw this one at the Muny in St. Louis:

This is a favorite although, I actually have never seen it in theatre:

Mondays Music...Freebie/Space Jammin'

Wow, it is Monday once again and that can only mean it is time for Mondays Music Moves Me hosted by Xmas Dolly.
This week it is a "free" week which I picks the tunes sans theme.

My daughter was visiting me this week as she was recovering from surgery and was asking me what the 4M's was all about. So, after explaining she said how about something along the lines of Space Jam? As I had no other ideas that sounded good to me. So, in honor of the daughter...

Mondays Music Moves Me...Jan. 16th

It is Monday Music Moves hosted by Xmas Dolly and the train crew.
This week the theme is your wedding dance music or music from when you were 21 years old (assuming you are that old-lol).

I chose this week to do both.  Some of you may know that Tamirisc and I got married in 2008 in our condo so, we did not have "dance music" per se.  However, we did have a song or two associated with our small ceremony. The first song I wish to share with you is "our song" and the one playing when we fell head over heals for each other. (I realize I have posted this before but after all...)

So, moving on. When I was 21, (1989 for those that really want to know) I was very pregnant with my second child...my son.  By then I also already had my daughter who was going to be two. Life for me at that time was a bit chaotic and all I can say is somewhat a blur. I cannot say I had a favorite piece of music. In fact, I had to go look up what was playing then.  I found a few that I could say I liked and will share these with you.

First up: (Sheesh, if I had her body then and now! Warning a little risque if you have kids in the room.)

What was she thinking with that um...outfit?

Next up: (Bonus points- What were they know for?)

This song I actually sang to my Mom for some event a few years later: (Bonus points-What movie is it from?)

Last one for this go around. This gal should be familiar:

Mondays Music Moves Me...

Hey there, welcome back to the 9th day of the new year. It is Monday and that only means rocking out with our host Xmas Dolly. Last week I got the sheer privledge to dance with my hubby in the spotlight...what a treat! He swung me around Bloggerville, stepped on my toes a few times (seriously, the man really can't dance), and listened to the beat of others boogie-ing on down.

Spotlight Dancers

This week, as every other Monday happens to be, is a "free" week. That means I get to choose the tunes theme free.  Since it is a new year I thought I should start off with a bang.

Movin' on:

Not to be out done:

Oh and for a bonus...did I mention it was my birthday on Thursday:

Mondays Music...week 2 of Christmas Music

Spotlight Dancers

Whoo hoo...it's Monday. Let me just move right in to Mondays Music this week with the continuation of Christmas music being hosted by my second favorite elf, Xmas Dolly.

This week I am thinking snow. Before you hit me with a snowball, I really do not want it to snow (except on Christmas) but thinking the song versions.

Let's see what kind of snow fort I can build here. Hee hee

Starting with this classic:

Moving on to this one:

Rounding out with this one:

See you next week...Peace, Naila Moon

Day 14...smiles

Day 14

Today I am most thankful for smiles. I can never not smile when someone else does. This song also makes me smile. I found it from another persons blog. Hope it does for you what it does for me today.
