As the sun goes down...

 As the sun has gone down and Christmas Day comes to a close, I am reminded of something I wrote 5 years ago about my then fiance. We were married Christmas Day 2008 and these words still hold true. I love you Tamirisc (Chronicles From the Man Cave) ~Naila Moon

"Sometimes, if we are lucky, we are given second chances in life, in some cases this is a new job, or a new place to live. For me I was fortunate enough to be given a second chance at love, and a love that is deeper and more powerful than anything I have ever experienced!"
This quote was written by another here on multiply. It says everything that I am about to tell you and I agree with it completely.

As many of you know, I have counted down the weeks, days, hours and minutes to a certain day...which was this past Friday, August 15th.  You knew of my excitement but only just a few knew the whole truth. I swore Ms G, Mr P, KH and Lori to a secret they so figured out. Thanks for not revealing my secret until I was ready for it.
You see, a few months back I met someone on line who I began chatting with off line. As time went on I began to discover my feelings for him were developing in to something more.  He resisted with all his might and frankly thought I was off my rocker....I can't say that I blame him in that assessment because how illogical it was that I was beginning to fall for someone online.  My ex-husband had done such a number on me that I never thought I could truly love another or that someone would love me as I am.
So, after many months, I was invited to come visit him and that day was August 15th, I will tell you now that the person I am speaking about is Tamiric.He wrote the opening line of this blog in a blog about me and how he felt about me.
I am writing this from Denver, Co where Mark lives. He is everything I have ever dreamed the love of my life should be.  He understands me completely and loves me in a way I cannot even begin to describe.
Mark is my soul mate, the love of my life I have desired for so long and I cannot begin to tell him how grateful I am that the universe put us together.
While here we have gone to a confectionary shop he has written about, gone to his favorite Greek restaurant, shopped down town as we walked in the rain, he has cooked meals for me that you would have at a 5 star restaurants, had a private showing of Batman Begins, listened to music and we have enjoyed the view of the Colorado mountains from his balcony.
Yes, if we get a second chance then we are truly lucky to have it. Without a doubt in my mind I am truly lucky to have Mark in mine life.
I love you Mark, and I certainly look forward to many more moments in time with you and the promises that we are yet to reveal.

Day 25...Art vs Craft and my art too! :)

 

 I am getting in a bit late this evening with this post but better late than never right?

Anyway, I have been working very diligently on a piece of art but before I show you the done deal, I want to address something I saw on another bloggers blog today. That is...

Is there really any difference between art and craft. My immediate answer is no there isn't and my research showed that most people see no difference. I mean after all, can't a craft also be seen as art? 

However, upon further research, I found an article that summed it up this way.

1. Art is a form of work that expresses emotions and expressions. Craft is a form of work, which has a physical form just like in moulding and carving.
2. While Craft is quantified, Art seldom is.
3. One can create duplicate craft forms, which is not possible with art.
4. Art forms move people emotionally, whereas crafts attract people.
5. Unlike craft, art is known to come out of the heart and soul. Crafts are a product of the mind.
6. In art, it is the emotions that flow out whereas in craft no emotion is involved.
7. Art comes out from a person’s innate talents whereas craft is the result of experience.

Although, I get the point here it still seems like to me that the difference comes down to the eye of the beholder. There is certainly some things that I would never consider as art but in the art world they are all the rave. 

Anyway, on to my own art project. This took me a few days to gather the materials and to actually do. Materials used: posterboard, acrylics, found tags plastic holly piece, real wood. I give you my advent calendar.

Us Christmas 2010

Believe it or not, the first weekend in December is only 2 weeks away. Now, in our household we decorate for Christmas the day after Thanksgiving or that same weekend.

This year is going to be very different for Mark and I because it is going to be the first year without anyone in our families here or us there for Christmas. For me, Christmas exudes family and friends. A little tough to handle.

This is where you all come in. Mark and I are asking that you share in our Christmas holiday with us. I am currently making paper rings to decorate our apartment with, you know the ones that look like this (except in red, white and green):



What we are asking you to do is send us a paper link or two or three or 100! However, on each link we want you to do any or all of the following:
Write a Christmas wish on each
Write a prayer request
Have your child draw a picture on each
Have your child list their Christmas list wish
Think of something else appropriate in this category of things

Then mail them to us! We will take each link and add them to our links. On Christmas Day we will lift all of these things up with our celebration and you will be a part of our celebration too.

You can do this as individuals, family or church groups. The more the merrier.  We will post all the links together so you can see.

Please make sure the paper links are no longer than a regular size piece of paper, in width the size of a ruler. Red, green and white is good but if the get colored different colors that is ok too! :) If you can, please send before Thanksgiving.

Day 11- Child Wonderment

This morning Tamirisc and I were having some pillow talk time. I love pillow talk! Anyway, we were discussing the movie we watched last night. Yes, it was a Christmas movie.

The movie had in it old fashion store Christmas windows that included animated dolls,animated elves, trains and more. We were discussing how the stores do not have them any more, at least not the way I remember them. I was explaining to him that I thought this was sad that new generations have not grown up with that wonderment.

When I was a child, my parents dressed us up in Christmas outfits and took us to the city, that being St. Louis. At that time the biggest department store was Famous-Barr (it was bought out by Macy's who eventually tore the store down).  Famous-Barr were notorious for their huge Christmas window displays and everyone flocked to them to see them.

In actuality we never had to go in the store to enjoy all the Christmas finery. However, if you didn't you were missing out. Once inside the displays came alive even more so in the store. Everywhere you turned there was animated things and snowflakes and shiny, wrapped, spinning gifts. Famous-Barr had several floors and each was as special as the next.

For us kids though, the ultimate was the top floor, which of course is where our parents whisked us too as soon as possible. There was rows of snowflakes and candy canes hanging from above. Gingerbread houses lined the walls and "elves" guides the site-seekers down the hallway. At the end of the hallway was the big guy himself, Santa Claus.

Of course we got our photo taken and told him our secret wishes but he also passed out candy canes and a real wrapped gift. Wow!

I am sorry that our children are not entitled to those days of wonderment, those days of specialness, those days of just being a kid. I really am sorry, but in the same sense, I am thankful that I got to enjoy the wonderment of being a kid at Christmas.

Top 10...Christmas Traditions (Dec. 15, 2011)

This week on Top 10 our lovely host, Beth asks us to name our Top 10 Christmas Traditions.  I do not think this will be too hard but I will see where it goes.

1. As I blogged about here the tradition of the Advent Candles


2. It has become a tradition to visit Our Lady of the Snows. The 
    place is so beautiful. Here a few photos from there.

3. The kids and I always watched this on Christmas Eve or Day 
     depending on when we had Christmas together. We still do! ;)




4. We also watch Charlie Brown Christmas, Miracle on34th St.,
     and many others. My favorite one though is this one:




5. Putting money in the kettles. There is this lady here locally that sings carols as you go in to the store. Makes me smile.

6. Singing Christmas carols to the neighbors. Yeah, we really do.
    A few years ago when I was in high school, I roped my friends
    in to going house to house to sing. When my kids got older, I 
    took them and their friends.


7.  Since I married Tamirisc, it is the annual taking of our Christmas
     photo for our cards. This becomes craziness because Tamirisc
     usually does not cooperate. Oh, then there is our family 
     Christmas photo! See what I mean?

8. Listening to Christmas music.


9. Decorating! My Mother starts the weekend after Thanksgiving 
    and almost up to her annual party.Traditionally, she did inside
    and Dad and I did outside ( to stay out of her way). I missed not
    being able to decorate with my Dad. Actually, he just kind of 
    supervised. lol

10. Family!! There is nothing like family for the holidays. We are a 
      rather large family as families go. This year though it is different
      as we lost two of our members this year and that is tough on us
      and certainly different. We miss them loads!
