Welcome to another discussion of Tuesday's Topics. This week I want to talk all about letters.

No, not the ABC's.  I am talking about real handwritten letters.

Do you remember those?

I remember writing friends that I had met at Summer camp and pen pals too.  I had a few pen pals actually not too long ago.  I should write them again.

Anyway, the art of letter writing is almost completely a thing of the past with e-mail, texting, Facebook etc. etc.  However, some people just won't completely let it go (like me) and some people are bringing it back in style.

Case in point...

This past Sunday I came across an article about the winner of the kindness award. (Who knew there was an award?)  Upon clicking on the article I found a gal by the name of  Hannah Brencher.

Hannah was feeling very lonely in New York City and was literally on the subway when she realized others might be lonely too and in need of encouragement.

Right then she wrote her very first, what she calls love letters, to a stranger. She then dropped it off somewhere for someone else to find.  Before she knew it, she had written 400 love letters to strangers and 'delivered' them all over New York. Of course she blogged about it.

What began with 400 became thousands with the help of some friends and bloggers.  Hannah and her volunteer crew mail out bundles of love letters every month to people who have requested to have letters sent to another, not to mention the ones that still get stuck here and there.  How cool is that?

If you think someone could use a pick-me-up, you can go over to the site and submit a name. Believe me, the recipient will get letters! Don't you wished you received something besides junk in the mail?

So, where does this leave me?

I have decided after reading this great article, that I am going to leave random letters in places around this area.  I hope my letters will bring hope or encouragement to someone that finds them.

Next, I am going to find the addresses of the pen pals I had (which numbered 4) and write them letters.

I might join the crew at "More Love Letters" and send through their PO box but I am going to do the above first.

I encourage you to follow suit. Who knows who might pick up your letter. It may be just the words that person needs that day.

Day 18-A Million thanks!

I am not sure how you feel about our military but I know that I appreciate them. My brother currently is serving abroad.
You probably always hear, "thank our service people" "give them a hand shake" or something like that.

Well, here is your chance to thank a service person with a personal note. If you send them your e-mail or snail mail many of them do write back.

A few years ago I wrote to anyone who read my letter. As it turns out, that person did indeed write back.  I cannot tell you his name now but I do remember he was most gracious for receiving my letter as he was far away from the states.

There are several letter writing campaigns and I will share a couple with you.

A Million Thanks

A Million Thanks dot org is a group that sends cards all year round. There are dead lines to send cards at a certain time and there are restrictions. Click HERE to find out about them.

Letters To Soldiers dot org is another group that allows you to type your letter in to their web site and they will print and send it for you. Click HERE to find out about them.

It certainly cannot hurt to address one more card to a soldier while we are filling out other cards to send to family and friends.  Let's do this and give a little thanks!

Pen Pal Letter Box

Not long ago I was thrift store shopping and came across a cute little dinosaur box. Inside the box happened to be a floor puzzle that of course was a dinosaur when put together.  I thought how cute and bought it.

After bringing the box home I started to look at it with different eyes. I thought I would like to somehow tweak this box to make it...well...less kid-ish.

As it turned out, I happen to have a book for decoupage and decided to give it a go.  I carefully cut scenes and photos I thought would look cute on it and started gluing.

It took me a few hours but I was quite satisfied with the results.  I left the puzzle in the box (because I had no where else to put it) and decided to use my newly decorated box for my pen pal letters.

So now, those of you who are my pens pals, you have a special place in the new pen pal box!

Snowflakes...the paper kind that is

So, my loyal readers, by now you know I am in a couple of pen pal groups.


Oh, you didn't know...ok, well sorry...read on.

Anyway, these groups are attempting to bring back the old fashioned form of writing that many of us grew up with.  I personally had many pen pals when I was growing up. I now have 5 new ones.

Yesterday, in an attempt to get all letters sent out to my pen pals, I got this crazy idea.  I decided to make each of them their very own paper snowflake. 


Side note to said pen pals: If you are following me, be surprised ok?

Anyway, I thought it would be fun to share with you not only how to make a paper snowflake but I actually made a video (which is following) as a fun way to show you how.
It is great to do with kids or if you just want some snowy decor.  Believe me, I do not think my paper snowflakes came out as good as these photos I am sharing with you but aren't all real snowflakes different? hee hee

Pencil, Pen, Marker or Crayon...We can do it!

Many of us here in Bloggerville and around the Cyber World actually write letters. Yeah, you know, that thing done with a pen and paper (or if you prefer crayons hee hee!)

I have received some wonderful cards and letters from people I have never met and I appreciate everyone of them. Do you know what it is like to receive good mail? My loyal readers, I promise I will have a follow up about that at another time. 

However, today I want to talk about some other people who need to hear from us. The people who have served our country proudly need to receive the written word from us.




As in the past, the American Red Cross is collecting holiday cards for those soldiers and families who are in the military hospitals.

They need to hear this holiday season that we still care, that we appreciate them and we thank them for their service to us and our country.

I am asking you today to write a letter or send a card right now, right this minute.

Please note the rules for sending per the Red Cross: 

• Make sure you address as indicated above and no other way, otherwise the cards will be returned
• Must be sent BEFORE December 10th
• Do not send any other gifts or insert because they will be removed from your card or letter
• Write generically eg. "Dear Soldier"

We can do this my friends. It only takes a moment and will brighten the lives of others.
