As the sun goes down...

As the sun has gone down and Christmas Day comes to a close, I am reminded of something I wrote 5 years ago about my then fiance. We were married Christmas Day 2008 and these words still hold true. I love you Tamirisc (Chronicles From the Man Cave) ~Naila Moon
---------------------------------------------

"Sometimes, if we are lucky, we are given second chances in life, in some cases this is a new job, or a new place to live. For me I was fortunate enough to be given a second chance at love, and a love that is deeper and more powerful than anything I have ever experienced!"
This quote was written by another here on multiply. It says everything that I am about to tell you and I agree with it completely.

As many of you know, I have counted down the weeks, days, hours and minutes to a certain day...which was this past Friday, August 15th.  You knew of my excitement but only just a few knew the whole truth. I swore Ms G, Mr P, KH and Lori to a secret they so figured out. Thanks for not revealing my secret until I was ready for it.
You see, a few months back I met someone on line who I began chatting with off line. As time went on I began to discover my feelings for him were developing in to something more.  He resisted with all his might and frankly thought I was off my rocker....I can't say that I blame him in that assessment because how illogical it was that I was beginning to fall for someone online.  My ex-husband had done such a number on me that I never thought I could truly love another or that someone would love me as I am.
So, after many months, I was invited to come visit him and that day was August 15th, I will tell you now that the person I am speaking about is Tamiric. He wrote the opening line of this blog in a blog about me and how he felt about me.
I am writing this from Denver, Co where Mark lives. He is everything I have ever dreamed the love of my life should be.  He understands me completely and loves me in a way I cannot even begin to describe.
Mark is my soul mate, the love of my life I have desired for so long and I cannot begin to tell him how grateful I am that the universe put us together.
While here we have gone to a confectionary shop he has written about, gone to his favorite Greek restaurant, shopped down town as we walked in the rain, he has cooked meals for me that you would have at a 5 star restaurants, had a private showing of Batman Begins, listened to music and we have enjoyed the view of the Colorado mountains from his balcony.
Yes, if we get a second chance then we are truly lucky to have it. Without a doubt in my mind I am truly lucky to have Mark in mine life.
I love you Mark, and I certainly look forward to many more moments in time with you and the promises that we are yet to reveal.

Father's Day Reflection

A rare photo of me and Dad

As today is Father's Day, I wanted to give some thoughts on how I felt about the day and how I feel about it now.

My Dad has been gone from this Earth for two years now. While he was here with me, my life with him from the time I was 19 years old until about 6 months before he passed was anything but always pleasant.

In fact, I spent over 20+ years being angry at him. I was hurt and resentful for almost all of that time. I wanted life with him to be what it was prior to my turning 19 but it wasn't.

It was also, not completely his fault. Although, it took me a long time to come to that realization.

My life with Dad prior to that time was a daughter's dream. I was his princess, the only girl, who really could do no wrong. I was truly Daddy's little girl.

Dad one month before he passed away-Memorial Day 2011

He came to my volleyball and basketball games, he taught me the art of photography, he taught me the art of advertisement, he taught me to ballroom dance, he laughed with me, washed my hair on occasion, he was there when I graduated from high school, and gave me my first typewriter for college.  He was a part of my life.

What I didn't realize or what really he did not realize is that I was not perfect.  I made mistakes and huge ones.

I will not get into what caused the rift between my Dad and I. It does not matter. What matters is that it happened and I spent the rest of his life as unhappy with him as he was with me. Father's Day for me was simply an uncomfortable day to give 'adoration' to someone I was not liking at all.

However, forgiveness is divine.

Six months before he passed away, I stayed with my parents an extra week at Christmas time. I needed to be with Dad because I felt, I would never see him again alive after that moment. It turned out not to be true but at the time, quite real.

I took the time to really talk to my Dad, tell him how I had felt over the years. Tell him I had been pissed and just wanted him to love me without all the conditions that had proceeded it.

What occurred it something I did not expect. First he said that it had been so many years that he did not even know why I was angry with him anymore. He just knew that I was. Then...
He asked me for forgiveness. Me.

In that very moment, all pain, all hurt, everything, was gone. Healing took place.

It turns out, that I moved back to Missouri where my parents were living. I spent the next 6 months in great relationship with my Dad. In fact, in an ironic turn of events, I was the ONLY person with my Dad when he passed on into the afterlife.

I watched him take his last breaths and then, he was gone.  No more Father's Days.

I wish that I had not wasted so much time being angry and resentful. I wish that I could spend this Father's Day with him, but I can't.

What I can do though, is be grateful I had a beautiful 6 months with him in a peaceful, loving relationship and just being Daddy's little girl.

Remember to tell those you truly love, that you love them.
I love you Dad and miss you very much.

Bible Series Premiere and Walmart $15 GC Giveaway

When I was a child my parents had given me my very own large Children's Bible. It was filled with pictures and stories that were easily understandable. Later on I read these same stories as an adult in another edition they had given me.

In fact, my Mother collected Bibles and had many editions in our home that were fully accessible to us if we wanted to look at them or read them.

That is why I find it interesting that on March 3rd beginning at 8PM (check your local listenings) the History Channel is going to present a 10 part miniseries retelling many of the stories that I grew up with. Check out the clips from the miniseries too. Looks pretty awesome to me.

From Executive Producers Roma Downey and Mark Burnett comes The Bible — an epic 10-part miniseries retelling stories from the Scriptures for a whole new generation. Breathtaking in scope and scale, The Bible features powerful performances, exotic locales and dazzling visual effects that breathe spectacular life into the dramatic tales of faith and courage from Genesis through Revelation. This historic television event is sure to entertain and inspire the whole family!

If this is not enough excitement for you then guess what?

There is a giveaway attached to this premier! That's right!

In working with the History Channel, they will provide one of my readers with a $15 Walmart Gift Certificate.

Isn't that great?

So check out the premier's countdown and make sure to watch on March 3rd.  Will you recognize your favorite characters from the Bible? Watch and find out!

Tuesday's Topics...Letters

Hello my favorite blog peeps.  How are you today?

Welcome to another discussion of Tuesday's Topics. This week I want to talk all about letters.

No, not the ABC's.  I am talking about real handwritten letters.

Do you remember those?

I remember writing friends that I had met at Summer camp and pen pals too.  I had a few pen pals actually not too long ago.  I should write them again.

Anyway, the art of letter writing is almost completely a thing of the past with e-mail, texting, Facebook etc. etc.  However, some people just won't completely let it go (like me) and some people are bringing it back in style.

Case in point...

This past Sunday I came across an article about the winner of the kindness award. (Who knew there was an award?)  Upon clicking on the article I found a gal by the name of  Hannah Brencher.

Hannah was feeling very lonely in New York City and was literally on the subway when she realized others might be lonely too and in need of encouragement.

Right then she wrote her very first, what she calls love letters, to a stranger. She then dropped it off somewhere for someone else to find.  Before she knew it, she had written 400 love letters to strangers and 'delivered' them all over New York. Of course she blogged about it.

What began with 400 became thousands with the help of some friends and bloggers.  Hannah and her volunteer crew mail out bundles of love letters every month to people who have requested to have letters sent to another, not to mention the ones that still get stuck here and there.  How cool is that?

If you think someone could use a pick-me-up, you can go over to the site and submit a name. Believe me, the recipient will get letters! Don't you wished you received something besides junk in the mail?

So, where does this leave me?

I have decided after reading this great article, that I am going to leave random letters in places around this area.  I hope my letters will bring hope or encouragement to someone that finds them.

Next, I am going to find the addresses of the pen pals I had (which numbered 4) and write them letters.

I might join the crew at "More Love Letters" and send through their PO box but I am going to do the above first.

I encourage you to follow suit. Who knows who might pick up your letter. It may be just the words that person needs that day.

Tell me in comments. Who would you send a letter to? What do you think about today's topic?

Peace and love,
~Naila Moon

Thankful Thursday and A Song/Valentine's Day 2-14-2013

Here it is the big Valentine's Day. It also happens to be Thursday and another day to be thankful for the things of the week.

Although, I am not a huge Valentine's Day person (just ask Tamirisc), I am thankful for the loved ones I have.

Thankful for the love my parents had for each other, that I am here today.

Thankful for my children who make me laugh (and cry too) and thankful for my grand-children who are just simply precious.

Most of all today though, I am thankful for the  love of my Tamirisc.

Very recently, we have been going through a rough time with our extended families but side by side we are able to wade through this mud.  It makes it easier knowing that his love for me is sometimes the only thing that keeps me sane.

I make an effort to tell him that I love him everyday or at very least in my actions.

So, knowing that he will eventually read this...I LOVE YOU HONEY!
I am most grateful for you in my life. Thanks for loving me.

Tuesdays Topics...Kindness

Welcome back to a early afternoon of Tuesdays Topics.  Today's topic is about kindness.

I try to catch the Ellen DeGeneres show when I can.  I am not consistent but I do like her show.
This week she is asking all of her viewers to show kindness this week everyday. Now, I know she truly wants people to be kind everyday of the year not just during this week.

Yesterday, I received in the mail an act of kindness.
I received a fairly big box of all sorts of goodies from someone I know. (Well, truth is, I only know her through the net but "know" her none-the-less.) She sent me a box with stuff I like, stuff I need too, and just stuff she wanted to send me. Oh the joy!

“Be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle.” ~Plato

The fact is, she found it in her heart to do an act of selfless kindness.

It is not hard to be kind, really, it isn't!  All it takes is a moment, even if it means two seconds of your time.

There are many different ways to be kind.  I can come up with ways on my own but I thought of Google-ing a few. Click on each one to read what you could do.

25 ways
32 ways
52 Ways
100 Ways

To be kind should really be a daily thing. To be kind you must be mindful to be kind.
It should be so ingrained in us that it becomes who we are not what we do.

What is one way you could be kind this week? Tell me in comments.

~Peace and love,
Naila Moon

Hello my favorite music lovers. Today's post is written while I watch the Grammys. So, I am totally distracted.

This is not something I would normally do because frankly, I hate awards shows. There, I said it.

Shall we move on?

Before I go too far, congrats Kayla on being Spotlight Dancer this week.

This weeks theme appropriately enough is Valentine's Day/Love Songs.
However, this week we have a catch, the word "love" cannot be in the title. Ohhhh!

The Three Lost Kids and Cupid's Capture...book review

Today I am excited to share another book with you from author Kimberly Kinrade.
Her chapter book, The Three Lost Kids & Cupid's Capture, is out of a collection of chapter books based on three young sisters, Lexie, Maddie and Bella and their dog Tay-Tay.
------------

Lexie, an extremely smart 1st grader, is very grumpy and having one very bad Valentine's Day. She does not feel she is good enough for anything because she is so small . She thinks even her hearts are all wrong.

What makes things worse is everyone else in her class also seems to be in a bad mood too. She cannot even get along with her best friend, Abigail.

Upon finding her older sisters on the playground, she consults her "Magic Mirror of Ice" to see what is going on.  It is only then revealed that the three girls have special magical powers that do not work on full power in the world they are in but in the alternate worlds.

The mirror pulls the three and their dog into the world of Heartland which they had never visited before. This world is full of beautiful hearts  including the trees and the clouds and loveliness all around. This is also home of Cupid whom they meet purely by accident in a twist of fate. Cupid informs them that Heartland is being under attack by a terrible monster who ends up capturing Cupid.

The girls embark on a trek that takes them through specific stages, including facing the monster,  in which they must overcome in order to save Heartland and free Cupid. Only working together will they be able to do what seems an impossible task.

Can it be done? Will the girl's save Heartland  from this evil monster? Will Lexie learn to love herself for who she is?
----------------

This book is aimed at 6-9 year old girls in particular although, I think young boys would like this book too.

I think 6-9 year old kids will be able to identify with Lexie who has to come to understand herself and love herself. This is a tough stage and kids this age often do feel inadequate as they are trying to feel their way through the world. The character Lexie is no different.

I love this book on so many levels. The dream world fantasy of the book had me hooked from the first few lines but the strength the characters eventually found is what I found to be truly great. Besides, I have always wanted to meet Cupid and have a conversation with her. Haven't you?

As I have read none of the other books in the series, I am now intrigued and want to read them all. In addition, I am likely to purchase the set and save them for my Granddaughter when she gets just a bit older. She will certainly relate to the character Bella but I am certain she will also find her own magic within the pages.

This book gets a two thumbs way up from me.

Wordless(ish) Wed...2/6/2013

Welcome to another Wordless(ish) Wednesday.
Honestly, I do not know why we call it wordless because everyone always has to describe their photo anyway. However, I digress.

This week I am bringing to you a photo I took looking up the road from my Mother's house. She actually gets to step out every morning and see this lovely view.  I have to say, I am a bit jealous.

The mountain is called Coffee Pot Mountain and is in Sedona, Arizona.

Tuesday Topics-Sleeping in separate room/beds

Photobucket

Hello my lovely bloggers.  I am coming in late afternoon for Tuesdays Topics but you will forgive me. Won't you please?

I could not sleep last night and that only lead to sleeping in late today. Which ironically leads me to my topic today.

Tamirisc and I were in a conversation the other night about sleeping in separate beds or even having separate rooms. Now, I will tell you that I was the one that brought the discussion up. Sometimes these things pop in my brain and I want to know what he thinks.

It all started when we were watching some show on the MeTV network.  This network usually has the old TV shows like "Bewitched", "I Dream of Jeannie", MASH and a myriad of others. You get the gist.

Anyway, one of the showed the couple in the same room but sleeping in two separate beds. You of course know they did that back then on TV. Think "I Love Lucy". So, that is where it came from.

My thoughts were that it would not be such a bad idea to have different beds in the same room.  I referenced a former in-law of mine that had 10 children but had separate beds.

When I inquired with her about it she informed me that it was due to sleeping habits.  Her husband liked a harder mattress and she softer. She also preferred frilly bedding where he preferred no nonsense.

She went on to tell me that it had been this way since they were first married eons ago. (Mind you, they have 10 kids) She just got bedding that matched but was to the comfort of each of them. They each slept happily and well every night.  Obviously, they put their beds together on occasional liaisons. *chuckles*

As it turns out, one of their children also have separate beds. Her husband is in the Air Force and is gone for 6-8 months out of the year. They sleep alone most of the time and it is hard when he is home due to comfort. It works for them as well though because they too have 10 kids!

In any case, I could see why it would make some sense to do that but in the same room. Tamirisc seemed to get that one a bit.

Then our discussion turned to separate rooms.

This was something my hubby was not exactly keen about but again, I was able to make my points.

I turned to my Grandparents and parents to make this point.

Although, my Grandparents and parents slept in the same room as I was growing up, they eventually found themselves in separate bedrooms.

As my Grandparents got older, my Grandpa was often up and down in the middle of the night and restless when he was in bed.  Eventually, my Grandma would move into their guest bedroom just so she could sleep. It became so much so that she eventually just went to bed there every night.  It was a matter of practicality.
Their rooms were made up almost identical but Grandma could sleep and Grandpa could be up and down if needed.

For my parents it was a different matter and frankly, one I could totally get.

For as long as I can remember my Dad always snored and snored loud.  Now, my Mother of course got used to this so, this was not an issue. You would think so because I am telling you, the whole house shook when he went to sleep.

Actually how it came about that they ended up in separate rooms was a matter of decor and the internet. No kidding!

See, my Mother had an infinity to anything Native American and my Dad on the other hand had an infinity to anything Indy Racing.  Also, at the time, my Dad was a smoker and Mom was not. In fact, she could not take the smoking at all anymore. These things did not mesh well.  My Mother put up with Dad's stuff but not in their room.

She started putting his things in the spare bedroom for him to enjoy. Also at this time my Dad learned...well, sort of learned...how to use the internet. He bought himself a WebTV to use.  Do you remember those?

Since he had a TV in his other room to watch racing on, the WebTV was hooked up to it as well.  He would also smoke in there as well. He enjoyed staying in there because frankly, he has his own man cave of sorts.
It was not long before he would simply fall asleep in there too.

Mom on the other hand kept adding more Native American stuff to their room. Eventually, she too got her own computer set up.

Thus separate rooms, the way they liked it, was born.  I am not going to pretend though that it was a completely happy arrangement in the end (a whole 'nother story) but it did work for them for quite some time.  The truth is, they also slept better in the long run.

As it turns out, as the hubby and I continued to talk, his parents also had separate rooms and were decorated the way they liked it.  He could not remember it being any other way.

The fact is, I could see this in its entirety.  Some people would say that maybe that is being selfish. Or maybe there is a problem with the couple. I say, posh!

I actually think it is a matter of two individual people, coming together with maybe different taste and comforts, trying to live in the same household. It does not seem selfish to me to want to continue to sleep well or have things decorated a certain way. Or just the simple need to be alone for awhile or have the bed for a night by yourself.

To me, it does not mean that the couple loves each other any less. No, in fact, I see it as one partner respecting the other in a deeper sense to recognize their individuality.

So, what do you think? Tell me in comments below. I am listening.

The Hidden Chamber In The Great Sphinx Book Review and Giveaway

As a lover of all things history, one of my favorite genres to read is historical fiction books. So, it was pure excitement when I got the opportunity to review the book The Hidden Chamber In The Great Sphinx by Linda Cadose.

This book peaked my interest right away as I truly find anything Egyptian dealing with pyramids, pharaohs and especially the Sphinx quite fascinating. Linda Cadose has all of that in the pages of this book along with factual information for the reader.

The book follows archaeologist Dr. Cliff Post and his friend, Dr. Abdul Saad who discover a hidden chamber in the Great Sphinx. The right paw is opened to find much more than originally could be imagined and leads them to an even greater discovery. Many organizations get involved including the United Nations and The Museum of Antiquities of Egypt. Each organization has its own part in the discovery and gives  its own account to what exactly was discovered in factual detail.

The plot is written in such a way that the reader learns information about not only the Great Sphinx but also about Egypt, its mysteries, and the study of archaeology. Twisted among the pages is an endearing love story between Dr. Post and his next door neighbor. Also, there lies deception and intrigue.
----------------------

Linda Cadose writes a good tale but I do think the factual information over ran her story line. I was also surprised that some references in the book would be over the heads of young readers as they would have no frame of reference. Overall though, this book is obviously directed to the child who would love to read about Egypt and the historical nature of it and I am positive they would love it!

This book is recommended for the 9-15 year old reader. I personally would recommend it for the young pre-teen to young teen because some words in the book would be a bit difficult for the younger child.
