Goodnight, Brian Book Review

Recently I received a copy of the book Goodnight, Brian by Steven Manchester.
I had only read a snippet of the book before I received a copy, so I had no idea what the book was really about.

I honestly could say that Goodnight, Brian was about unconditional love of another and be completely done with my post.

That would be an honest assessment but certainly not do the book justice or Steven Manchester of whom is a prolific writer. I was so enamored with this book that I read it in a day and a half.

The story centers around and begin with the Mauretti family who has just given birth to little Brian. His mother begins him on a soy formula after only a few weeks of breast feeding.

The food that should be making Brian a strong and healthy baby instead turns to heartbreak. Little Brian ends up with mortifying results. After multiple testings he is found to be severely brain damaged with no hope to achieve any of the milestones. With an unfathomable diagnoses, doctors write him off as a lost cause.

However, enters the matriarch of the family, Angela DiMartino, known as Mama.
Mama is a strong Italian grandmother with  award winning recipes, a strong faith, and a heart of gold.

Mama refuses to accept the diagnosis of little Brian and takes him under her wing. She will not allow anyone in her family or outsider treat Brian with disrespect or with indifference.

With  the help of family, unwavering patience, perseverance and unconditional love, Mama stimulates Brian slowly through all the milestones that the doctors said would never occur.

A bond is formed that can never be broken and the entire Mauretti and DiMartino family learns that sometimes strengths are found within challenges.

So, what happens to Brian, Mama and the family in the end?

Well, that I leave you to find out for yourself.

Goodnight, Brian is truly a beautiful and well written book. The book is a must, must read.

Get out your tissues because this book gets a two thumbs way up.
