E is for...

"Every minute you are angry, you lose 60 seconds of happiness." ~Emerson

I used to think this quote was rather dumb. Then I realized how brilliant it actually is.

I have cursed the ignorance of others when they could not see what I was trying so desperately to tell them.
I would stomp or run off hoping that a brick would fall on their heads and it would become clear.
All the while I am fuming as my face is turning red. They were confused at my response.

Sadly, one time I was so angry that I threw a plate across the room hoping to hit the person I was aiming for.
Although in truth, I aimed for the wall behind them but was ticked even further when it did not hit them. They ducked any way.

I have been so angry that my body has shook from all the synapses firing off.

I have cried until I have heaved in utter exhaustion and nothing was left.

I have been angry many times but more at myself for being so stupid.

Every time I was angry, I lost out on being that much happier.

I strive to be happier now and keep my 60 seconds for it is good for me and good for others.

Thanks for this - I needed it. I am working hard to be happy every day. It's quite a challenge, but worth working on!

I've had those moments as well, and they are not fun. Once I could feel myself tensing up, getting very angry. I simply told myself "stop, breathe" and it worked! I was amazed.

Glad that you're learning to leave the anger behind. :-) And thanks for visiting my blog!

One thing I noticed--and it might help to drive traffic here, is that when I clicked on your name on the comment on my blog, it took me to your Google+ page. I couldn't find a link to this blog there. So I followed your vlog post to youtube, where I found the link to here.

I know there are some blogging platforms where the link back to me becomes lost. I don't know why :-) It happens. Anyway, if you want people to find their way back, it might not hurt to post the link to this blog after your comment. You might get more visitors. :-)

Have a wonderful Friday--and keep on being happy. Nice to "meet" you!

I can so relate to this post. I think the path to changing our emotions is awareness :)

That is true Jen. For me it was also undiagnosed depression. :)

Teresa-I have left my link in the past but had not thinking that it just came here. Should have known better. Thanks for tracking me down. :)

Another good one. I'm rarely ever angry, which I am grateful toward. In fact, the only one who ever really presses my buttons is my sister and I have no idea why. Rationalize all I want, just the smallest thing from her can annoy me and it's never over anything significant. I keep trying to work on it but in the end have to do something later to make up for the outburst, though I've never thrown anything at her yet and it's better now that we don't live in the same house.

But it's a good quote and I'll try to remember it next time.
