Top 10...Santa wish list

It's Thursday and that means Top 10 hosted by Beth.
This week she asks us to list our top 10 Santa wishes. She did not put a limit on what we could ask for, so I am guessing anything goes.

Mondays Music...oops on Tuesday

Spotlight Dancers

Technically it is VERY early Tuesday morning. I got wrapped up in homework and changing my blog (do you like the new look?) and decorating and oh...did I mention homework. So, I am late posting my Mondays Music. I really don't think Xmas Dolly will mind, she seems to like me. Hee hee!

Anyway, Xmas Dolly is kicking off the Christmas Season as proclaiming herself head elf of the Polar Express. Why not? After all, she IS Xmas Dolly! *chuckles* By doing so, she says what better way than to post seasonal music all month long and to start today!

That being said, first up:

Finally this one.

More to come this coming month! Peace...Naila Moon

Day 27 & 28...Helpers and decorating

Day 27 & Day 28

I missed posting my final days of thankfulness yesterday but that is ok because yesterday and today have run together. I am so grateful for some family and some friends that helped us move out of our apartment. They lent vans, SUV's and trucks to get us moved. Everyone was so generous in the things they did for us. We have only a little left to move and another friend is coming tommorow to help us do that. Much love to all of them!

In between all of that, I have been doing my annual help my Mom get her Christmas decorating done. I have always been in charge of the outside and this year was no different EXCEPT my Dad was not here to do that with me. Dad and I always got out of Mom's way inside and it gave us a good excuse that we had to be outside.
This year Tamirisc helped me and got the full understanding of the under taking. lol

Day 26...survival

Day 26

Today I am grateful that I survived the Black Friday shopping spree my Mom and I went on.  It was fun and exciting! In my area of the world, nobody got stupid. It actually was very pleasant and people were very patient and respectful. (Pictures to come!)

A family tradition I do enjoy every year. The only thing is, I missed my Grandma because she always would come with us because she loved to shop!

Day 25...

Day 25...Today I am grateful for my Dad. I spent so much time being upset with him that I lost out on being with him. However, I did get time before he passed away and that was divine.

Day 24...Opportunity...Happy Thanksgiving

Day 24

Today I am grateful and privileged to serve others today. Sadly so many people go hungry and just because it is a holiday here in the
U.S. does not mean that today is any different for those people.

Happy Thanksgiving and peace...

Day 23-humor

Day 23

Today I am most thankful for humor. If it wasn't for a good laugh now and again, I certainly would be crying all the time.

Day 22...My Mom and birthday wishes

Day 22

Mom and I in 2010

I am most thankful for my Mother who came in to this world 72 years ago today. Of course then, I was not even a blink in her eyes.

I do not know what I would ever do without my Mother. She has stood for me when no other would. She has endured much to raise us in a loving home and a spiritual one at that.

She worked hard to teach not only us value and self worth but to also teach many other children the same things, as she was a teacher for over 30 some-odd years.  Now, she is a pastor of the faithful, a calling she had since she had been since she was 13 years old.

I know after 44 years of marriage she missed Dad and that is a burden only she can carry.

I am so grateful that she brought me in to this world.

I love you so much Mom. Happy Birthday!

Your daughter,
Naila Moon

Day 21...alone time

Today I was most thankful just to have some alone time with Tamirisc. ;-)
I love you honey.

Mondays Music Moves Me...Thankful songs

Spotlight Dancers

Today is Monday and that can only mean Mondays Music Moves Me hosted by the lovely Xmas Dolly. This week's theme is following along with Thanksgiving. She asks us to post songs we are thankful for. Hmm...well, I never really thought about that because I like so many songs. So, I thought I would just see what comes to mind. Shall we?

First up: Thankful for my Dad...I miss you.

 Next: Thankful for my Mom.

How about: Thankful for love and all those songs!

Finally: Thankful for my crazy love. :)

Bonus: Just because it is down right humorous!

Day 20...Family (brothers and extended)

Day 20

Me and the boys and Mom in June 2011

I cannot help but be thankful for my brothers and their families.   I am truly blessed to have three wonderful brothers, sister-in-laws, and a slew of nieces and nephews.

Memories of growing up with three brothers is both fun and aggravating all at the same time. *chuckles* However, we always did things together and that is what made it so great.

I miss them so much as we are all spread out all over the country and the world but I know if I needed them, they would be there and vice versa.

Even though we came together in June for our Dad's passing, it was wonderful to be with them because we had not been together since 1987...much too long.

I am also grateful they have helped bring in to this world some really terrific kids.  I waited a long time for one of them to have kids. Each of them has their own special uniqueness about them and I do love that so much.

Some of us with Mom and Day this past Christmas 2010

Today some of us are getting together for an early Thanksgiving feast at my Mom's house. It is always noisy and chaotic but always a time to be grateful. That, I truly am.

Day 19...Izabella

Day 19

Today I am most thankful for my fun-loving Grand-daughter, Izabella. She came in to this world in January of 2010 as a preemie and had a tough few months of getting going. Once she did though...wow, watch out world!

I have the privilege of being with her just about every day. We read books which is actually her favorite thing to play with. Of course we play and "talk".  She is truly loving and enjoys her hugs and kisses.

I am so blessed to have that sweet little girl in my life. What else is a Grandma to do? :-)

Peace...Naila Moon

Day 18...beds

Day 18

This is only a bed I dream of

Today I can truly say I am thankful for a bed to sleep in. Tamirisc and I have been couch hopping this last week due to some unforseen circumstances and boy, do I miss my own bed.

However, it is even more than that.  There was a time that my children and I did not have beds to sleep in and were given brand new ones for Christmas a few years back. It was truly a wonderful gift by some caring people.

The thing is, there are many people out there today that go to sleep every night and have no place to sleep or no bed to lie their heads in.  To me, that is such a sad thing.

I am so grateful to have my bed to call my own no matter what my circumstances.

Top 10...Thanksgivning Food Favs (with recipies)

Today is Thursday and that means it is Top 10 day. Beth who always host this shin-dig asks us today to post our Top 10 Thanksgiving foods we like. She said to post recipies if we want but I probably will not for most of them.  So, on to it....

1. Turkey...what would Thanksgiving be without it? My Mother usually roasts it. However, the last 3 years I cooked it because I was not home for Thanksgiving. (btw-just in case you might need help. Butterball Hotline)

2. Green bean casserole...Oh, I crave this stuff. I am the only one who makes it for our family dinners too. The more french onions on there the better.

3. Mashed potatoes and homemade gravy...no one makes it better than my Mom! There is NEVER enough.

4. Broccoli and rice casserole...my Aunt M. makes this stuff and it is always a favorite. Again, NEVER enough. Here is Paula Deen's Recipe for it.

5. Hot Rolls...usually we have store bought rolls that we heat in the oven.

6. Pumpkin pie and Cool whip...this is the ONLY pie I will ever eat. I actually did not start eating it until way in to my 30's. I have to have tons of Cool whip on it too.  Although my Mother has made many pies, she often buys the pies from Walmart. Yummy!
Here is Sandra Lee's Recipe for it.

7. Mom's chocolate chip cookies...I have never tasted anyone's cookies better than hers. I could eat them by the hands full! I would give you the recipe but then...well, you know the rest. lol

8. Milk...although, this might seem odd, to me it goes good with everything...especially those cookies!

9. Pink Stuff...no, I am not talking Pepto here. This is a conccotion that my Grandma used to make.  It really was pink and full of all sorts of good stuff which included pineapple, whipped cream, strawberry jello, cherries and ??? Only later in years did I find out it was...well, I never found out.

10. Pumpkin pudding...this is a favorite I started making back when I was teaching preschool. It is simple and easy to make and can be done with preschoolers.  Here is a recipe for it although, I usually use milk.

There you have it.

Day 17...gift of laughter

Day 17

Today I suppose I am most thankful for the gift of laughter. There is so much crappola that is going on in this world even as I write that it is hard to want to laugh.

However, some things you find yourself laughing at in spite of it all.  My daughter was telling me that she was watching an old Steve Martin film last night and not only did it remind of her of my husband (I cannot imagine why) but also, that the movie simply made her laugh.

Laughing is good for the soul, don't you think? What has made you laugh today?? Tell, me. I would like to know.

How about this?

Day 16...food

Day 16

Yesterday, my daughter, cousin-in-law, and I were having a conversation about my belated Grandma and some of the "dishes" she made. In particular we were talking about her chili.

Now I use the term "chili" here loosely because her chili was not exactly what most people would bring to mind. Her chili consisted of a can or two of beans, mystery meat and water. There was absolutely no seasoning to it.  Sometimes it was actually beans, tomato soup and water. In any case, we hated it but we were expected to eat it. You always ate what Grandma put on the table with no argument.

The funny thing is, I miss her so much and would eat that in a heartbeat just to see her again.

So today I am thankful for the food that is put on the table. It does not matter whether I like it or not. No, it is just that it is there. So many people are hungry or are going hungry and would beg just to get a small morsel. I am truly blessed and truly thankful for what I have.

Day 15...LOVE

Day 15

My entire life my parents had/have hanging in their kitchen this chapter from Corinthians 13 that spoke about LOVE.  It was a first anniversary gift from my Dad to my Mom.  It was a testament to how my parents felt about each other and what was truly important to them in life. It is my favorite verse of the Bible to this day.

We tend to throw the word "love" around. We "love" this or that person we "love" this or that thing, when in truth, we really just like stuff a whole lot.  The word as it is in the Bible is a strong word and one that should not be used so lightly.  I am not pointing fingers...I have thrown it around too.

Today I am most thankful for love. I think this is a basic need that all of us need. We crave love from our parents or cargivers from the time we are born. We look for it in other people as we get older. I believe we have always had it from our Creator.

This love is the greatest of all because there is no failings in it as humans tend to do. It is perfect. Really, it is something to strive for, this LOVE.

Day 14...smiles

Day 14

Today I am most thankful for smiles. I can never not smile when someone else does. This song also makes me smile. I found it from another persons blog. Hope it does for you what it does for me today.

Mondays Music Moves Me

Today is Monday and that can only mean Mondays Music hosted by Xmas Dolly. This weeks theme is all about color but to throw a little curve in there we can also post a song from our high school prom theme (that is if we went).

So, to add a little treat for you, I am posting two photos of me my Senior year (circa 1986). These are the only two photos that survived from back then. Remember the hoops?

My Dad took this in our back yard

This was my fiance at the time. Isn't the tux a trip?!

For some reason, I actually remember the theme which was, "Almost Paradise" from the song that year. So, obviously my first video today is...

Next up, how about a song from the color of my dress:

How about from his tux:

See you next time. Peace,

Day 13...kindness/the little things

November 13th

Today I am grateful for the kindness of a stranger who stopped to help me when I was stranded on the side of the road the other day. I had run out of gas out in the middle of nowhere. Cars whizzed by but this older gentleman stopped and offered me his phone.

I am also grateful for a dear friend who rescued my car off that same highway on the same day. He came down from the city before he had to go to work that night. He brought a gas can, put gas in it and then took me to get my car and finally followed me home.

Yeah, it is the littlest things I am most grateful for today.  Thank to both of you...the kindness of a stranger and of a friend.

Day 12...shoes

Day 12

I found this photo on FB. Credit goes to (but I found link not to work) http://www.schoolgallery.fr/schoolgallery/spip.php?article598

Today I am most grateful for even my shoes that had holes in them. There is really nothing more that I could say here than that is there?

Day 11...Veterans

November 11th

My brother, Marcus and my Mom

My Dad (Navy), Grandpa (Army), and Uncle Dink (Army)-I miss all of you in so different ways.
Uncle Lowell (Peace Corps), Tam's Dad, Ralph (Army Air Forces) and Tam's Aunt Dorthy (Navy) -I wish I had known all of you in life. You too are missed by those that did.

Uncle Jim (Navy), Uncle Lloyd (Army), my brothers, Jason (Air Force), Marcus (Army), and Aaron (Army-currently serving)...thank you!

Again, I am thankful for all. For those who are far from home, come home safe.

Top 10...TV shows

Today being Thursday, that can only mean Top 10 hosted by the wonderful lady, Beth. Please stop by her place and say hello if you get a chance.

Today Beth asks us to post our Top 10 favorite TV shows, past or present.  It is sort of hard to narrow that down because frankly, I like a lot of shows but I will do my best. hee hee

1. MASH-I can honestly say this is a definate favorite. When I saw
the theme this week, this was the first show I thought of. This show made you laugh and cry all at the same time.

2. Touched By An Angel-I loved everything about this show. I loved the characters, the story lines and all around message. I even at one point had the music CD for this show and the extended shows on DVD. By the way, didn't you think it weird that John Dye died so young?

3. Property Virgins-I really just like the host. She listens to her clients and genuinely cares about them. If I ever could afford to buy a house, I would ask her to be my realtor.

4. The Muppet Show/Fraggle Rock- Although this is two seperate shows, they are still Muppets and of Jim Henson genius. If you have seen my musical posts before, then you know I like just about everything Muppets!

5. Sesame Street/Mr. Rogers/Electric Company/Letter People-again, different shows but these are classic PBS children's shows. Honestly, they do not make them like they did when I was a kid and I think our children have missed out because of it.

6. NCIS-I was never a huge fan of this show until my husband got me hooked on it.  However, I do not like all the spin offs.

7. The Cosby Show-I loved watching the Huxtables have growing pains.

8. The Biggest Loser-I started following this back around Season 2.
However, this season I simply have not watched it. I guess it is because it is not the same only having Bob and not Jillian.

9. Fantasy Island-Even though I was a kid when the original was on the air. I always thought it would be fun to visit the island and have Mr. Roarke fulfill my fantasy for me. I liked the remake of the show in the 90's but I did not like how Mr. Roarke had become such a darker character.

10.  Minute to Win It/Deal or No Deal/ Wheel of Fortune/Jeopardy-Once again, all these game shows are different but I do like them all. Actually, I only named just a few of the many I have watched and liked over the years.

Well, there you have it, my Top 10 for the week.

Day 10...modern technology/inventors

Day 10...thankful for modern technology and those that invented it!

Do you know this guy?

Keep reading and you will find out who he is and why everyone should be thankful for his invention.

As I mentioned in the past modern technology has been the best thing (and sometimes the worst thing) ever!  If it wasn't for Edison discovering the light bulb, we would be in the dark all the time. lol
Think of all the things electric we use.

Here is some other inventors and their technologies used today:

How about Virginia Apgar? Sound familiar to some of you Moms? She should, she invented the Apgar test for newborns and was on the ground floor for anesthesiology especially during childbirth.

There is also Elisha Graves Otis who discovered elevator brakes! Nice to know since I use an elevator practically  two-three times a week.

What about George Alcorn who invented the x-ray spectrometer?
What in the world did they do before that?

There are so many technological things that have been invented and the people behind them that I cannot begin to list them all. However, I am truly grateful for all modern technology and those people too.

By the way, did you ever figure out who the guy above was? His name is Allesandro Volta. He is the inventor of the first batteries. He is also associated with the "first" inventor of the cochlear implant. See, I told you we should be thankful for him too!
