Day 24...About friends

So today, I want to discuss my thoughts about another chapter in the book The Ultimate Gift.  Chapter 5 speaks about friends.

I have been lucky enough to have a few acquaintances over the course of my life thus far. However, they are just that acquaintances whom at one point or another I called "friend".  These people usually have been in my life for a moment in time for good or bad but always to teach me something.

However, there are two people in my life that I can truly call friends. In essence, they are just like sisters to me. They have known me for years and we have been through thick and thin. Both of them at times have even wanted to kick me to the curb but stuck by me in the end.

The truth is, that is how it is. I was told years ago that you can usually count the number of real friends you have on one hand and I can.

Introducing...

Debra

I have known Debra since she was 13 years old. She is 3 years younger than me. She had a crush on one of my twin brothers (hee hee).  We did not become true friends until much later.

We went to church together and sang in choirs together. We were even roommates at one point in our lives (that was about the time she wanted to kick me to the curb).  We also traveled to Rome together with 4 million of our closest youth group friends in 2000. (She and I were volunteer youth ministers) Debra has had a rough life, no doubt, but she has and continues to be an inspiration to me. She is always there for me if I ever do need her. Most recently, she agreed to take photos of my family, when we were all together for the first time in years. She cried and laughed with the best of us.

Kelly

I have known Kelly since I was in high school. We did not go to the same high school but she was always around. After all, she dated (and at one point was engaged) to one of my twin brothers. (note: not the same one Debra had a crush on) She is about 3-4 years younger than me.

My brothers and I had a little gang that was always together every weekend and Kelly was a part of that group. It seems we were always hanging out. It did not matter that she was with my brother because we clicked as friends.

To this day (even though she did not marry in to our family) she is still my confidant. If I need advice on something, she is definitely my go to gal. She usually will tell me which way the wind blows and will hold no punches. However, she is also there if I need a shoulder to cry on too.  She was my maid of honor at my first wedding and supported me when I married a second time.  She also is my son's Godmother and has taken that job very seriously over the years.
 ------------------------
As I said earlier, these two women I consider sisters.  I would do anything for them and they for me.  Sometimes we do not see each other for a long time but I know when I do, it is as if, I saw them yesterday.  I am truly, truly blessed because you just do not get many true friends in your life time.  Thank you, Debra and Kelly...you two are the best!

Your "Sister",
MR...aka Naila Moon

What a beautiful Post for your friends. I sure hope they're bloggers too so they can see what a wonderful tribute you made to them. I wish I had friends like that. I guess I'm more closer to family, and my blogger friends mean a lot to me too. Have a great weekend.

Your family is my family and no matter how long we go without seeing each other it's like no time at all has passed when we do. You are so sweet to say those beautiful things. HUGS!!!
